Filmmaker: Unknown

This series War At The Door was transmitted on BBC1 in 2005.
Revived in 1984, Bristol Housing Action (BHAM) is a non-heirarchical collective of squatters and their supporters. We help provide housing and other support for homeless people. We do everything possible to make sure we don’t turn anyone, however challenging their circumstances, away from being housed somewhere in Bristol.
We are committed to the opening of community spaces and to solidarity with existing social centres. We campaign against the privatisation of public land and housing and for the defence of public space.

April 11+12 2008 saw international days of action in defence of squats and autonomous spaces (see http://april2008.squat.net ). In Bristol enraged creatives took a building in the centre of town turned it into an exibition and music space and did a carnival parade to contest the impending grip of corporate interests on our city – the luxury flats, displacement of social housing, eviction of squats, closure of clubs and shopping centre expansion to name but a few elements.

The land is a free gift to all mankind and not ‘private property’ in the ordinary sense. The right to shelter is enshrined in article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
